A Praise For Producer McG and Approachability in Cinema

Do you ever have a moment where you see a person's name listed on your favorite movie, and you go online to look into who this person is, and you come to find out they've been involved in many movies and shows that you love? This is what happened with me when looking up film producer McG. Going through his IMDB page, I enjoy so many movies and shows he's worked on, such as The Babysitter, Love Hard, Holidate, The DUFF, The O.C., and Chuck.

Now there is something all these pieces have in common: they are made to be very approachable. They are mostly comedy driven movies that are meant to be taken lightly and purely enjoyed. For example, look at The DUFF. It's a movie that is meant to be a playful and lighthearted story of a teen girl going through insecurities about her appearance and popularity. Here is a scene in particular that really shows the movie's lightheartedness and willingness to have fun with its creativity:

The film has fun with editing, utilizing joking hashtags and creating speedy montages that show who each character is in a humorous and surprisingly effective way. The film is low brow in a purposeful way. It includes many scenes like that one that help to create a movie that's really just meant to be fun and easily understood. This scene is a major example of McG's use of unique Mise-en-Scene.

Now I don't know if producers can be described as Auteurs, but I really think McG proves that they can be. All of McG's works have the same easily understood and approachable vibe. They seek to have fun and not hide their message, but rather show it in the most fun way possible, regardless or quirkiness or any lack of professionalism. McG seems to be a major presence in a movie's ability to use editing and Mise-en-Scene to create these lighthearted and approachable feelings the audiences of these films feel.
